About Project
Redlough delivered the refurbishment and construction of a playground and parklet at Vicar Street Park, Dublin 8, as part of Dublin City Council’s public realm and streetscape enhancement works. The project transformed an existing, dated playground into a vibrant, accessible community space within a constrained urban setting.
The works included new play areas, seating spaces, and high-quality soft landscaping, providing a welcoming green space for local residents while enhancing the character of the street environment. The project demonstrates successful urban renewal within a small city footprint.
Our Approach
The project was delivered in line with the approved design by Haslam & Co Architects and involved the careful coordination of construction, landscaping, and installation works within an active urban area.
The layout was formed into two distinct zones: a seated parklet area with bespoke curved seating, and a separate enclosed playground incorporating new play equipment, safety surfacing, and access gates. Bespoke Accoya timber edging was installed throughout the site to define spaces and provide a durable, high-quality finish.
Existing mature planting was protected during construction. A StrataCell system was installed to enhance and feature a Lagerstroemia indica ‘Muskogee’ (Myrtle Tree), allowing it to be retained and integrated as a focal point of the park.
Works were delivered on behalf of Dublin City Council’s Central South Area Office, with close coordination to ensure quality, safety, and timely completion.
